Below are some answers to our most frequently asked questions
 

Q1. Do you offer free site visits?

Yes, we are happy to visit you at your building site and discuss your building requirements.

Q2. Will I need building consent?

Most of the time, building consent is required for an Ideal building. However, in September 2020, Schedule 1 of the NZ Building Act was expanded to include a wider range of buildings that do not require building consent. Talk to us about your plans, and we will be able to advise you if consent is required.

Q3. Will Ideal Buildings handle the building consent for me?

Yes, it is our preference to handle everything from consent to completion. We take the potential stress out of dealing with the council regulations.

Q4. If I want to buy a kit-set building, is it easy to build myself?

Ideal offers kitset garages and carports. We will provide you with some assembly instructions for your new building. The build time depends on the weather, your competence, and the assistance you have. Some building experience and the correct tools are advisable.

Q5. What sizes of buildings do you offer?

Our standard range starts at 3m x 3m and goes up to 18m x 9m. We offer 2.1m –> 3m stud heights.

Q6. What sort of floor do I need for the building?

Depending on your site and the use of the building, you may be able to choose from a timber or concrete floor. Your Ideal distributor will be able to advise you on the options after a site visit to see the building area.

Q7. How does colour choice affect the visual appearance of my building?

The phenomenon known as ‘oil canning’ is a cosmetic issue that commonly affects some cold rolled steel products, especially in dark colourways and those featuring large flat surfaces, such as our Superclad cladding. This characteristic manifests as a subtle waviness or distortion in the flat areas of the metal roof, wall cladding and flashings. It is important to note that oil canning is purely cosmetic in nature, does not constitute a defect when it appears, and does not compromise the strength or performance of the cladding (refer to the MBIE Guide to tolerance, materials and workmanship in new residential construction 2015). The appearance of oil canning tends to diminish over time as the cladding naturally weathers. 

Q8. Can you handle everything for us?

Yes, it is our preference to handle everything from consent to completion. Our buildings are well understood by the New Zealand local councils, and with our trusted network of subcontractors, we aim to make the build process as stress-free as possible for you.

Q9. Will you install the plumbing, drainage and electrical?

Yes, we can either connect your new Ideal building to any existing building on your property or organise new connections.

 Q10. How flexible are the floor plans?

Subject to wall bracing requirements, you can place windows and doors where you like. Each Ideal building is manufactured to your unique requirements.

 Q11. Can you build to a specific size?

We can customise a plan to suit you and can arrange doors and windows to suit your needs.

Q12. What about on-site health and safety?

We take on-site health and safety very seriously, not only for our staff but also for our customers.

 Q13. What about building near the sea?

Building in the coastal zone may affect the warranty on your roofing and cladding. We can advise on the best products for your location.

 Q14. What sort of garage doors do you offer?

At Ideal, we only offer quality sectional and rolla doors made by Garador, a well-known New Zealand brand.

 Q15. What do Ideal buildings cost?

Due to regional variances in the cost of materials and labour, the prices of Ideal buildings vary across the country. Your local Ideal distributor will be able to provide you an estimate or quote.
